I have been trying to figure out what I’m doing in college! One of the “AJ Ink-ers” is about to graduate, and focus on technical theater after high school. We wanted to do a project that combined our love for theater and disdain for all games that are not card-based. So, we thought that we would combine four of our favorite broadway shows, and put them into a card deck. What’s the purpose of this card desk, you say? We want to reach out to a local group called “The Off Beat Players,” and partner with them to raise money for their future shows. Today we brainstormed, found the missing laptop, and made a concept design that includes a color palette (with colors based on each play) and figured out the 16 characters that we will draw. Some highlights include the three-headed dad card for the “Mamma Mia” cards, the shining golden suit for Conrad in the “Bye Bye Birdie” cards, B. Rizzle’s feature in the “Grease” cards, and Sky “da Man” Masterson in the “Guys & Dolls” deck. Our plan is to finish drawing all 16 cards, reach out to the “Off Beat Players” with some of our designs, and then figure out how to actually get these cards printed. In the next blog post, expect to see some outlines of specific cards, and updates on our partnership. Thanks for reading, bye bye birdie, B. Rizzle out! -Angie & Jackie of AJ Ink (Concept drawings) (Color palette)
