"How is This Not Sexist?"

Some of our guy friends think that the "Women in Science" conference is being sexist, because only women are allowed to go.  They say...

"How is this not sexist?"

Well, It's NOT!  Here's why:

First- In the science world, in a lot of conferences (well most of them) there are both men and women scientists.  When they have speakers at these conferences, most of them are men.  In fact, according to our Aunt Laurie, only 12 out of 100 of the speakers are women.  It's not reasonable or fair, nor does it make any sense, because the ratio is larger than 12/100 in the science world.

Second- Men can take away an opportunity for a woman to speak or ask a question, if they attend.   For example, my aunt let a guy into the Women in Science conference about two years ago, because he really wanted to go.  She said you can go and watch them speak, but you can't ask any questions.  As soon as they had time for questions, his hand shot up.  She was like "Jimmy! Get out!"  He took away an opportunity of a female scientists to ask her question.  This is why the "Women in Science" conference is for only women, and it's NOT sexist.
